Senior Healthy Walking Program (Vista Project)

The Center for Healthy Aging has partnered with City of Reno Senior Citizens Advisory Committee and Truckee Meadows Park Foundation/VISTA to offer a no cost Senior Healthy Walking Program for seniors 50 years and older.  We are seeking volunteers and walkers!  This program helps promote independence, well-being, mental acuity, physical strength and encourages healthy lifestyle choices. The Centers for Disease and Control states that ‘people who are physically active live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression, and some cancer.  The Senior Healthy Walking Program will also foster social inclusion and a sense of community.

Volunteers are needed to lead walks; to help with the administration of the program; to develop new walking groups in other locations; to help train other volunteers; and to track the impact of the program.

Gathering for our first walking group will begin at 8:30 am on August 23, 2017 at Meadowood Mall.  Our 1-hour walk will begin at 9:00 am.  This walking group will meet weekly.  All participants will receive water and snacks.
